Woven structure

Dobby CAD Studio — online, in your browser

Dobby weaves are the small repeating structures that give fabric its character: twills, satins, hopsacks, oxfords. The Dusrawork Dobby CAD Studio lets you design them on an interactive matrix grid — by hand or from a preset — and see the cloth, not just the grid.

A free Dusrawork account includes monthly usage credits — design, simulate and export without a subscription. Instead of a flat pixel grid, you get the full mechanics of a real dobby loom: harness draft, lifting plan, physical yarn parameters and a physics-aware 3D preview, with float-length rules enforced as you design.

What the studio does

  • 100+ categorized weave presets (satins, twills, hopsacks and more) ready to load and edit
  • Interactive matrix editing: click to draw, D-pad transforms (rotate, invert, shift), plus custom BMP import
  • Harness draft & peg plan editor with configurable shaft count
  • Per-yarn physical parameters — thickness, slub, lustre, hairiness, count and twist for warp and weft
  • Float audit with protection and fixing modes, plus a live 3D fabric texture preview
  • Edge finishing options and everything autosaved for crash-safe recovery

The workflow, end to end

  1. Pick a preset or start from an empty matrix; choose your weave size in ends and picks.
  2. Draw or import the interlacement, set yarn colours and physical behaviour, then audit floats.
  3. Export the CAD package for the dobby loom including draft and peg plan reference.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import an existing weave pattern file?

Yes — the studio reads standard weave BMP files, so you can start from your library of existing structures and edit them further.

What is a peg plan?

It is the sequence that tells the dobby machine which shafts to lift on each pick. The studio generates it alongside your harness draft so the design maps 1:1 to the machine.

Can I design matching warp and weft-faced versions?

Yes — float rules can be applied per yarn system, and the preview shows exactly how the chosen structures read on both faces.
